Spring Photos – Iris and Frogs

Took a stroll down to the little pond. The iris that Judy planted are making a brave show of color. I happened to spot this dragonfly and he obligingly stayed in place while I took some pictures.

Down at the other end of the pond, I found a good-sized bullfrog. I remember last summer there were hundreds of tadpoles in the pond.

He thought he was hiding in the reeds, but I spotted this bullfrog partially submerged in the pond.

LOL Virginia! We had “waterfront property”next to a spring fed retention pond in our small development in Pennsylvania. Trying to think what time of year it was (shame on me the librarian for not going to look it up, for fear of timing out here!), but once a year there would be this mass mating orgy of frogs or toads right in the road! Little males trying manfully to mount enormous females…Unreal! And every summer night the loud bellering of the big bulls….we’d go out and beller back and they’d answer. Anyway, I suspect that your big green fella there got fat and sassy by EATING those little tadpoles. It ain’t easy bein’ green, but hey! Sometimes a guy gotta do what he do! The circle of life and all that jazz. Enjoy! You have inspired me.
