Mid-Summer Iris

On the golf course at Lake Forest RV Resort, I enjoy the plantings members place around the course. Different ones sign up to plant flowers and tend those around the tee areas. Along the pond that bisects the first fairway (a dogleg right), there are some beautiful plantings. Some are the work of Claire and Ralph, but I think Judy Mankus planted this beautiful water iris.

To find its name, I consulted with a Facebook group called Iris Lovers. With 6,000 members, I had the name of this beauty within a few minutes of posting the photo. This Japanese water iris likes to grow at the water’s edge and blooms in mid-summer. Having grown up in Kansas, I think of iris as a spring time flower. What a treat to enjoy this one at the end of July.
